Description
A study of the history, structure, and functions of corrections as well as the legal and philosophical basis for the punishment of criminal offenders
Learning Objectives
Students will develop and demonstrate an understanding of the historical nature of corrections in America.
Students will demonstrate an understanding of the role the American corrections system has had in the development of modern criminal justice.
Students will demonstrate an understanding of social, political, and individual factors that influence the operations of the American correctional system.
Students will demonstrate an understanding of the functions of each component of the American correctional system - jails, prisons, probation, parole, and diversion programs.
Students will develop and implement critical thinking techniques to analyze the primary objective of the American correctional system – to punish or rehabilitate
