Upon successful completion of the course students will be able to:
- Explain and describe the specific roles and behaviors practiced by managers as they engage in the four primary functions of management: planning, organizing, leading, and controlling.
- Demonstrate an understanding and ability to evaluate and navigate elements in the external and internal environments in which managers operate. Examples include competition, customers, societal and demographic trends, economic changes, global influences and changes, legal and regulatory constraints, and of course, employees and firm resources.
- Demonstrate an understanding, appreciation, and commitment to meeting the ethical and societal responsibilities and obligations of modern managers.
- Demonstrate an understanding of leadership in modern organizations and the ways that managers are able to build and motivate supportive teams of employees and a supportive organizational culture that leads to superior organizational and individual outcomes.
- Identify, evaluate, and implement strategic options available to companies and the specific actions that managers must take to build sustainable competitive advantage in organizations.
- Identify and evaluate the different forms of organizational structure available to companies.
- Apply, through writing, understanding of the management functions and suggest specific actions to fit contemporary business scenarios.
