HADM 3303 - U.S. Health Care Systems

Description

Fundamental concerns such as cost, access, quality, financing, health workforce, and public health represent key topics. We will apply these topics or problems to real-life situations. The approach will be purposeful to allow the successful student to recognize how these topics interact with each other within the whole health care system.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of the course students will be able to:

Develop a comprehensive understanding of "the big picture" of health care.
Understand how to measure health status.
Analyze the health status of the U.S. and the increase of chronic diseases.
Understand the healthcare system as a whole.
Analyze the impact of the reduced workforce and its impact on quality of care.
Understand government based insurance plans vs. the private market.
Analyze the cost of care, health insurance trends, and health care financing.
Define managed care.
Understand quality of care and health care regulations.
Develop an understanding of the national health policy proposals.
